Aurelius Maxeliamus was just like all the men in his family; serving his time in the Imperial Legion. Coming was from a family whose roots go all the way to the time when the Imperial City was just becoming the strong and cosmopolitan capital city of Cyrodill. It had become a family tradition for men in his family to be Imperial Legion soldiers before they get promoted to Palace Guards, the most prestigious rank for a man to get in all of Cyrodill.
Aurelius spent most of his guard duty time patrolling the Elven Gardens District and guarding the Gate to the Market District. Most of the time it was actionless duty but nevertheless, criminal scum doesn't rest, for that was the Imperial Legions motto. The most action that he ever got while patrolling the Elven Gardens, was when two thieves were caught stealing apples but they were able to run away. Another criminal scum time , is during the Elven Feasts, during which Altmers, Dunmers and Bosmers drink themselves to oblivion (lolpun) and are known to fight each other due to their ethnic backgrounds and political backgrounds.
Sadly, Aurelius never managed to be there during the fun times, he was assigned to reading and sorting out reports. When reading them, he always wondered what it was like to be a guard in another district in the city or even another city, to raid Khajiit slums for skooma stashes and traders, to search for secret necromancer hideouts with the Battlemages. If only that day would come when he could shine...
In the Imperial Legion, the guards don't get much free time. Every guard had a right for 1 hour of free time during his daily duties with which the guards used to have their lunch in the local bars and pubs. Because they guard pay wasn't very big, the guards didn't have much money to spend it on luxury lunches in fancy restaurants.
The evenings in the North barracks were filled with mostly board games and reading, mainly because there was nothing else to do. Some of the guards go to pubs but no one is really fond of catching criminal scum with a hang over. Aurelius enjoys playing card games with his colleges where the the point of the game is not to lose and not end up running around the barracks yelling "BY THE NINES, I LOST THE GAME".

On an ordinary Fredas afternoon, Aurelius received a note from a messenger of the Imperial Legion. In it, he found something that made his heart race. It was an Imperial order to re-locate him to the Palace district. He was overly joyed over this spectacular news that would change his life. He quickly raced to his quarters, leaving his post. On the road he met one of the patrolling guards who he asked to fill his post. They parted and Aurelius continued his joyful run towards the barracks.
Upon arriving at the Palace district he went straight to the Guards office to report to his new assignement. The Guard Captain was sitting behind his desk, in his shiny silver armour which was recently washed and polished that it reflected the light coming from the windows.
Aurelius came up to him and reported:
"Imperial Legionnaire Aurelius reporting for duty, sir!"
"So you're Aurelius, eh? Well that's nice. I've heard about your family. Quite a long history it has had with the Imperial Guards. "
"Yes sir," he replied, "I'm the 15th in our family to become a guard in the Imperial Guards."
"That's nice to know. Now, you know why you're here correct?"
"Yes."
"Good, then I'm just going to make this short. You're assigned to guarding North Western gate with a partner. We've been having unknown activities going on in the district. Your duty starts today. Got it?"
"Yes sir."
"Now get out of my face" said the Captain.
Aurelius left the office with a long face. He didn't get what the expected, the long awaited Palae Guard position. Instead he got re-assigned from one boring duty to another. He walked to the gate where he met his guard partner, an imperial called Jesperius.
"Oh hey there partner!" greeted Jesperius Aurelius in a happy way.
"Umm hey." replied Aurelius with a strange look on his new partner.
"Sorry for my emotional greeting, it's just that it gets boring here."
"I know what you mean. I was re-assigned here from the Elven Gardens."
"Damn, I feel sorry for you brother."
"Nothing to worry about, at least now it won't be that boring." said Aurelius and walked to his post.
Many hours and conversations later, the sun was almost behind the city walls and the last rays hit the tip of the Imperial Palace. The people congested roads had become almost empty and the only people in the district were the Gate Guards and the few Palace Guards.
"It's getting really dark" said Jesperius.
"Quite." replied Aurelius with a long yawn.
"I hope the night-shift comes soon."
"Me too...*yawn*...me too..."
"I wonder what the Captain meant by unknown...."
Jesperius suddenly interrupted his own question when he suddenly ran as the wind towards the Western graves. I looked at him run and saw something that made me freeze. It was a Dunmer man in a red robe, painting a slogan on the wall with red paint. It read:

Jesperius suddenly interrupted his own question when he suddenly ran as the wind towards the Western graves. I looked at him run and saw something that made me freeze. It was a Dunmer man in a red robe, painting a slogan on the wall with red paint. It read:
LORD DAEGON SHALL WALK THIS LAND ONCE MORE
After finishing reading I ran after Jesperius. As I was running towards him, he stopped at the Dunmer and read him "the Article".
"STOP RIGHT THERE CRIMINAL SCUM. BREAK THE LAW ON MY WATCH WILL YOU? I'M CONFISCATING YOUR PAINT AND BRUSH AND ANY STOLEN GOODS. NOW PAY YOUR FINE OR IT'S OFF..."
Before he could finish, the man in the red robe rose his hand high up and bright light came down from it upon him. Red mist surrounded him. Out of the red mist, the man jumped out with armour on his body and a sword in his hand. Aurelius had no idea what just happened but he had a hunch to what might've just happened. He read about this in his free time in the North Western Barracks. It was conjuration magic that he used, of Daedric origins. The armour and helmet resembled exactly the ones that were described in the book, as well as the sword that the man had in his hand. All Daedric.
What happened next, Aurelius could never forget. Before Jesperius could react and reach for his sword, the man swung his sword swiftly right at Jesperius' waist cutting his body in half. Not even a sound came from him afterwards. The man went ahead and put his sword through the now dead Jesperius' torso right where his heart should be. The man knelt down, spoke something and suddenly his hand started to glow and dark mist came out of the hole in the torso which went into the mans hand. This was what the book wrote about soul capturing.
After completing his spells, the turned his head at me. The stood up, took out his sword and started to run at me. Aurelius took out my sword and shield on my back and was ready for battle. He shouted out:
"CRIMINAL SCUM HERE! NEED BACKUP! NEED BACKUP! DAEDRIC CRIMINAL SCUM IN THE CITY!"
A sudden noise arouse around the city. It was the sound of running Imperial Guards. But it would've been too late and it was up to Aurelius to fight off the Daedric scum. He moved up his shield in a defensive position and waited for the blow. The man came at an alarming speed and swung his sword as hard as he could against Aurelius' shield. The blow was so hard and loud that the shield broke and a ear shattering noise came, stunning Aurelius for a moment and he bent down a bit from the pain. The man hit Aurelius with his free hand over his neck and Aurelius fell down on the ground with on his stomach. He hit his head against the side walk and was feeling like he was going to die.
The man took his sword and was about to make the final blow on Aurelius, just like he did with Jesperius. Before he could do it, an arrow stuck the man in his left shoulder. A few moments later another one hit his lower stomach and another one his other shoulder. Aurelius' eyes were starting to shut off but he could hear the guards coming. He heard:
"STOP RIGHT THERE..."
Aurelius lost his consciousness.
